The term blog was
orginally coined backed in 1999 by Peter Merholz, who accidently
broke the word "weblog" into the phrase "we blog" in
the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com. However the term
"blog" was still relatively unknown to the mainstream pubic for few
years. Then in the early 2000s blogging started growing in
popularity mainly due to the fact that it easy way to promote and channel political views online,
notably opinions about the Iraq War and the 2004
presidential election. What started as a
online diary for a hobbyist later matured
into a powerful communication tool for major businesses to
communicate with their communities. Business
blogging proved to be an invaluable public relations
tool. Unlike traditional webpages
readers could easily comment on blog posts
providing businesses with invaluable feedback about
their customer viewpoints and concerns about a particular
product or service.
There were also
advantages in regards to blogging and search engine
optimization. Blogs are designed and structured to produce large
amounts of information for online
visitors. Being that search engines looked to
provide fresh content to their visitors blogs were
typically located and crawled more often
than traditional websites. Relevant blog
posts were also identified as a brand new webpages
and the search engines indexed and ranked them as
such. Also blog posts were not simply
limited to content, but other forms of
information including video and audio files
could easily be promoted via
blogging.
SEO Prodigy
understands the power of blogging for business. We
have since helped several clients create professional business
blogs. Our social marketing team also provides
clients with professional advice on how to compose blog posts
(business blogs are not a place to blatantly advertise).
More importantly we make sure that blog is search engine
friendly. A blog must be treated as a seperate
entity from a website (it often has it's own IP
address). It can be promoted seperately from
websites on special search engines and directories. Each
blog post can be made keyword dense and optimized for a
certain keyword or phrase.
If you think the word
"blog" is an ugly or techy, think again. It's a
powerful strategy that any webmaster should add to
their online marketing campaign. Contact us today to learn more about
blog promotion for business.
